Launching Footprint – Open Source
January 9, 2012 – 9:25 am
Footprint has finally launched, albeit in a slightly different way then was initially expected. Footprint has been released as an open source project, hosted on GitHub. The web app is now available for anyone to use, for free either on the hosted server (with some limitations) or it can be downloaded and installed on any server running Apache, PHP and MySQL.
Created by Iarfhlaith Kelly, he has written about his reasons for releasing it open source on his blog. You can create an account, download it, install it, hack it, change it, or improve it. The choice is yours.
There is a full installation guide available on the Footprint Wiki which will bring you through the installation process step by step. For those interested, here’s an overview of Footprint’s architecture.
Footprint allows web designer or developer freelancers to manage their sub-contractors, clients, projects, tasks, images, designs and documents all online. Files are stored using an Amazon S3 account, authentication is supported with OpenID, and there are dozens of other great features including access permissions, email notifications, RSS feed access, personalisation, custom sub domains, and much more.
The whole app including the promo site has been launched now as an open source project available for anyone to access and download.
Whatever you do with it, please let us know here in the comments.
